Training Racehorses in Epsom

The facilities have been recently improved; the latest additions being the much-acclaimed Polytrack surface similar to the All Weather track at Lingfield, and a long distance wax track. During the 19th and 20th centuries six Grand National winners and three Derby winners were among the many successful racehorses trained on the Downs at Epsom. In the 1950s, Sir Winston Churchill and The Queen were among the many prestigious owners who had their racehorses trained at Epsom. In recent years horses as diverse as champion sprinters Lake Coniston and Hever Golf Rose, and Welsh Grand National winner Cool Ground, have been trained at Epsom. In 2002, the winner of the Group One Queen Elizabeth II Stakes, Where Or When, was trained at Epsom, as were the winners of Royal Ascot’s big handicaps, the Wokingham Stakes and the Royal Hunt Cup. Epsom is a convenient base at which to have racehorses trained, approximately 30 minutes from Heathrow, Gatwick and Central London, and with ten racecourses within an hour’s drive. A low density of horses ensures that there is no queuing for the use of gallops, and your racehorse will receive personal attention. Whatever your requirements one of the local trainers listed below will be able to accommodate you.
