Epsom was the first spa town in England, following the discovery of Epsom Salts in a spring in the early 1600s. In the 1700s, Epsom enjoyed great prosperity, the Assembly Rooms and many fine houses were built, and in 1780 the first Derby was run on Epsom Downs.

Epsom and Ewell on the Internet (www.epsom.townpage.co.uk) will tell you about the history (and much more) of Epsom. The Epsom Protection Society (www.epsomprotectionsociety.co.uk) is committed to help shape the future of Epsom whilst safeguarding the past
