Far flung friends/We lived in Epsom

I am a US Citizen who was born with dual citizenship in Epsom in 1955. The house I was born in was at 121 Longdown Lane South. Google maps shows no house there and I am guessing that a row of houses was torn down to make way for the Epsom Golf Club. Would any of you local people know about the Epsom Golf Club and when it was either built or expanded?

I am hoping to come to Epsom for a visit some time soon.

Was that the school/pupils I was envious of in the 1960s because they were forced to wear orange purple and lime green blazers ?

My name is Denise Phillips and I was born in West Ewell 1944.

If anyone reads this page and recognises me from this missive I would love to hear from them.

I went to the Convent of the Sacred Heart at Dorking Road, Epsom in the 50's and had some very good friends that I lost touch with when I emigrated to Australia in 1968. Their names are Jennifer and Wendy Hughes and resided in Tadworth, Surrey. They both have married so I don't know their last name. We 3 used to spend a lot of time together and I would dearly love to get in touch with them again. We had a holiday in Cornwall and had a great time.

Some of my other friends were: Gloria Marcantonio, Patricia Hamill, Antoinette Wernet.

My brothers went to the Boys school at the back of the convent - called St Joseph's School. John and Frank

I can remember having a schoolgirl crush on a teacher call Miss Murray (anyone remember the irish singer Ruby Murray, she always reminded me of her), and in the Kindergarten grade I think it would have been 1948-49 I had a teacher called Miss Lysart, who was very kind to little kids of 4 years old.

If anyone else remembers me when I was at the school it would be nice to catch up with them also.

I then went to Danetree Road School in West Ewell around 1956 and my two brothers went there too. Their names Frank and John Phillips. I think I had a crush on a boy called Robert Bailey and invited him to my one and only birthday party, when I lived at 17 Chessington Rd, West Ewell. Does anyone remember the Tea Shop we had there, where my Mother Audrey Phillips and my Grandmother Margaret Phillips served all the Lawn ladies bowling team on a Saturday afternoon from the Recreation ground just past the West Ewell Railway station.

I left school at 17 and went to Secretarial School at Leatherhead, Surrey run by a lady teacher called Miss Wolf. One of my friends there was a girl called Patricia Storer, who amazed me by eating a Grapefruit just like an orange. Thanks Pat, I just love them now and they are in abundance in 'oz'.

I worked in the Civic Radio shop in Epsom High St, around 1962 and then in the National Provincial Bank Margaret St. London for a couple of years then got a transfer to the Epsom branch for a further couple of years in 1966 until I emigrated to 'Oz' in 1968.

I emigrated with 3 other girls 19-23 years of age. If you know of an Angela Weatherall who came from Grantham Lincolnshire, Angela Marshall from Kent who later married an American called Chris Roskos and lived there for years but is now divorced and resides in Malaga Spain, and a girl called Anne Blythe who I have been trying to contact for years without success. Please let me know.

We all came over to oz in 1968 on the Fairstar liner, and docked in Sydney Aug 5th 68.

It would be really good to hear from anyone who knows me as I miss the old country and still have family living over there.

Does anyone remember me? I was at school at Sparrow Farm Road, Stoneleigh 1969 - 1976. My classmates included Alan Grace, Philip Watson, Mark Wilkins and Andrew Sampson. I then went on to Ewell Castle with Jamie Clarke, Faisal Anwar, David Pinchbeck and Tim Saunders amongst others. If anyone remembers me please get in touch.
